SouthFront and twisting facts on the Syrian ground

An article published on November 19 by a website called SouthFront presented what it calls an objective analysis of the battle for Aleppo.

The article rightly described Aleppo as Syria’s largest city prior to the onset of the revolution but cited the pre-battle population as being 2.1 million which is slightly less than the 2.5 million documented by other sources, the difference being more than the current population of the opposition-held eastern area of the city.

The description of the regime-controlled western area of the city as the “hereditary residence of the residents, as well as the Christian minority” seems to imply superiority over what the article describes as the opposition held eastern neighborhoods which “were populated mostly by recent immigrants from the countryside, the poor and the conservative-minded Muslims.”
